Attitude
"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of
attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than
the past, than education, than money, than circumstances,
than failures, than successes, than what other people think
or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness,
or skill. It will make or break a company. . . a church .
. . a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every
day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We
cannot change our past . . . we cannot change the inevitable.
The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have,
and that is our attitude. . . I am convinced that life is
10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it
is with you . . . we are in charge of our attitudes."

Class Etiquette
- 1. Conduct yourself
professionally in class.
- Be supportive
and helpful to lower belts at all times.
- When free sparring
with those less advanced, the best way to teach is by sparring
just above their level.
- Be punctual.
- Respond to all
questions and instructions with "sir" or "ma'am".
- No exposed
blood is permitted during class. All bleeding must be stopped
and cleaned prior to re-entering class.
- Bow to the flags
when you enter the Dojang.
- Bow at the beginning
of class to the flags, then the instructor with, "Please
sir/ma'am!" At the end of class, bow to the flags,
then the instructor with "Thank you sir/ma'am!,"
and then the Black Belts with "Thank you sir/ma'am!"
- If you need
to exit class, raise your hand and ask permission first.
Bow to the instructor before leaving. When returning to
class, wait at the back of the classroom and raise your
hand for permission to rejoin the class. Bow to the instructor
prior to re–entering.
- Class will form
up with the highest ranking student in the fight front corner
followed by the rest of the students in belt order highest
to lowest. Students of equal belt rank will form with the
older students to the right. Time in rank or knowledge stripes
are not indicators of position. The instructor may adjust
the student's position in class in order to better view
each student.
Physical Conditioning
To improve your
performance in workout, work on aerobic and anaerobic conditioning
on your own time. Some aerobic exercises include running,
jumping rope, biking, swimming, or using a stair master. Some
anaerobic exercises include weight-lifting, short speed drills,
and short, high-intensity calisthenics.
To improve specific
techniques in Taekwondo, choose a mentor in the club whose
technique you would like to emulate. Ask him or her for suggestions
and help. Practice doing techniques slowly, in front of a
mirror, maintaining balance to increase control.
Mental Conditioning
Make goals you
want to achieve and plan how you will achieve them. Pick a
specific goal to work on for each workout. Use visualization
and imagine yourself performing a certain technique correctly.
